Toreros Win Husky Invite

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -
The USD Swim team took first place in the Husky Invite over the weekend, beating schools such as Oregon State, Seattle University and Idaho. Sophomore Mackenna Briggs highlighted the weekend for the Toreros, claiming first in the 500 free and 200 free and finishing fifth in the 100 fly.

Briggs won the 500 free with a career best time of 4:52.23 and the 200 free with a time of 1:49.49. She also notched career best times in the 100 fly (5th; 55.30) and 50 free (11th; 23.90).

The Toreros finished in the top two in all four relays and earned a first place finish in the 800 free relay (7:29.31). They completed the 200 medley relay in 1:44.83. Briggs, Bri Jurries, Alex Hubel, and Danielle Taylor finished the 200 free relay in 1:34.67, and Missy Beall, Jurries, Briggs, and Hubel grabbed second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:47.00.

Hubel finished second, right behind Briggs, in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.22. She notched a time of 1:50.06 in the prelims. Hubel swam a career best time of 55.38 in the 100 fly, good for a sixth place finish and also added another career best in the 50 free (23.73) to win the B final.

Jurries took second in the 200 IM (2:02.83) and sixth in the 100 breast (1:03.16).

Danielle Taylor grabbed third place in the 50 free, clocking in at 23.62, just 0.15 seconds off her career best.

Other notable finishes for the Toreros: Gwen Walter (6th in 1650 free; 17:39.72; 8th in 500 free; 5:08.26), MK Clancy (8th in 400 IM; 4:30.52), and Missy Beall (8th in 100 back; 1:00.42).

The Toreros competed in Sunday's prelims, but traveled back to San Diego before the finals took place. Alex Hubel took first in the 200 fly (2:01.77) and sixth in the 100 free (51.79). Briggs grabbed fourth in the 100 free with a career best time of 51.56 and eighth in the 200 fly (2:07.14). Danielle Taylor finished the 100 free in 51.80 for seventh place.

The Toreros finished the 400 free relay in second with a time of 3:28.02

The Toreros will have the next month off before their next meet the USD Shootout January 7th.
