SAN DIEGO, Calif. â€"The University of San Diego baseball team exploded for 13 runs en route to claiming a 13-7 win over UNLV Monday evening in a non-conference game at Fowler Park.

The Rebels (12-20) got on the scoreboard first, as they managed to score a pair of runs in the top of the first inning on one hit. The UNLV runs came on Andrew Yazsanbakhsh RBI single and a Justin Jones RBI groundout, to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

UNLV then went on to score one run in the second and third innings, and two more in the top of the fourth to take a commanding 6-2 lead.

Then San Diego (18-17) went to work, as they did most of their damage in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits. Hunter Mercado-Hood got things started, as he singled through the right side, and moved to second on Jay Schuyler single. A Daniel Gardner sacrifice bunt moved both runners up one base, then Alex Gomez reached on an error by the shortstop, which scored both runners on base. Jeff Houghtby kept things rolling with a single that moved Gomez to second. Then after a Bryson Brigman groundout moved both runners up a bag, Riley Adams unleashed his fifth home run of the season, a three-run blast to left field, to give USD the lead at 7-6.

USD then went on to score two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and three more in the seventh to cap their scoring for the day, while the Rebels added one more run in the top of the eighth to put the game at its final of 13-7.

Offensively for the Toreros, Gomez led the way, as he went 3-for-4 with two doubles, and four RBII, while Adams also had a great day, as he went 3-for-5 with a single, triple and home run, just falling a double shy of the cycle. Houghtby was the final Torero with three hits, as he went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Paul Richan (1-1) picked up the win on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed no runs on two hits in 3.2 innings of work. Larry Quaney (1-1) was saddled with the loss for the Rebels, as he allowed five runs on four hits in 2.1 innings of work.
