Torero Track Opens 2025 Schedule in Riverside

USD women's track begins spring season at the Riverside City College Invite

RIVERSIDE, Calif. The University of San Diego Women's track team began its 2025 schedule on the very last day of February, Friday night, under the lights at Riverside Community College. The evening marked the much-anticipated opener of the Torero 2025 track season.

Aryam Jaimes led off the meet with a second-place performance in Heat One of Women's 800m as she concluded with a second-place finish of 2:17.2. Heat Two was led by sophomore Lilly Dow as she placed second with a strong personal-best performance of 2:21.39. Another sophomore, Kara Curry, followed closely with a fourth-place finish and a time of 2:21.67. The third heat of the meet also highlighted a new entrant to the Torero lineup. Transfer sophomore Olivia Gaspar finished with a third-place finish of 2:29.24.

The 3km was also highlighted by senior leader Aryam Jaimes

"She ran an incredible double," head coach Will Guarino said after the meet. "Our goal for her was to open up stronger than she did last year, and did that with an exclamation point, showing the range in both speed in the 800m and endurance in the 3km. As a Coach, I was pleased with the growth displayed by the 3km group. They continue to stack greater times which is displayed in their training performances this winter session. I was so pleased to see the team run in a cluster of strength as they shared the work among one another.
This was also displayed by the comeback kid, Stella Smith returning from injury to win her heat in the 3km race. I was also pleased to see her lead her freshman group to great times as well. I enjoyed seeing the group work on the track as they learn to share the hurt of racing and focus on protecting each other."

The Torero women finished with a fifth-place finish in the 400m with a closing time of 4:07.05. It was a good beginning on their quest for sub four performance by the end of the season.

USD will now go back to the training grounds as they prepare for their next race in San Diego at the Aztec Invitational.
