LONG BEACH, Calif. - After two days of competition, the Toreros are in the middle of the pack at the Toshiba Classic with tough competition including Stanford, UCLA, BYU, and Utah. They are currently holding 15th place out of 24 teams, a jump from their opening day 18th place position.
On day one, the Toreros competed in five events. USD opened up with the 200 freestyle relay. The USD "A" squad (Francesca Finucane, Suzanne Crimmin, Jessica Rodriguez, Laura Pope) finished 14th overall in 1:37.77. Carmyn Chapman, Danielle Smith, Haley Pittman, Aileen Fedrick finished 44th overall in 1:44.67 followed by the squad of Kelly Stone, Rachael McKay, Michon Affinito, Katharine Olsen took 46th place in 1:45.85.
Freshman Francesca Finucane finished a team high of 32nd place in the 50 yard freestyle with a final time of 24:30.
In the 400 medley relay, the "A" squad of Aileen Fedrick, Danielle Smith, Kelly Stone, and Francesca Finucane finished in 21st overall with a 4:01.11 time. In the 200 yard medley relay, the "A" squad of Kristyn Deckard, Kristina Levesque, Sarah Geerdes, Jacquilyn Kimmel finished in 12th place in the field of 40 relay teams with a time of 1:47.81.
The Toreros struggled through the middle of day two as they team didn't have a finish higher than 39th in the individual events. Katharine Olsen took 46th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:41.56. Kelly Stone had a 57th place finish in the 58:15 in the 100 butterfly. In the 200 freestyle Francesca Finucane finished in 1:53.75 for 39th place. Haley Pittman finished 67th in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:09.34. Suzanne Crimmin took 45th in the 100 backstroke with a 59:45 time rounding out the individual events.
In the 800 freestyle relay at the end of day two, the "A" squad of Francesca Finucane, Suzanne Crimmin, Sarah Geerdes, and Sarah Gleason closed out the day with a 7th place finish in 7:34.00, the best finish over the first two days.
San Diego wraps up their final day at the Toshiba Classic in Long Beach, California on Saturday, November 21 with five events to finish the day.
