Three Podium Finishes in Two Races for San Diego Men's Rowing

Toreros Stack up Well in the First Varsity Eight and Four Events

LOS ANGELES – Torero Men's Rowing fared well at it's first Battleship Row Regatta in Los Angeles' Wilmington neighborhood, claiming three podium finishes, two in the first varsity eight event and one in the first varsity four.

"We attempted to create some even boats in our racing to add to the intrasquad competition, and we were able to do so based on some of the results," head coach Bart Thompson said. "I want to give a special shoutout to the 13 freshmen who had their first collegiate races today; that's a special moment."

To start the morning, the Toreros' two coxswained eight-man boats took both second and third place among a field of eight. It was the crew inside the bow No. 6 boat that claimed silver in the fall event, just under nine seconds behind the winning UCLA crew. The crew inside the bow No. 2 boat finished less than just three seconds behind their teammates, good for third.

In the first varsity four event later in the morning, San Diego set three shells out on the water. USD again claimed second place as the bow No. 26 boat finished 14 seconds behind the race winners in the field of 13 boats. The Toreros boats tagged No. 32 and No. 29 finished sixth and seventh respectively to round out San Diego's second regatta of the fall season, only 30 seconds behind the winners.
